The construction of this two-story gate, about 28 m (92 ft.) in height, commenced in 1907 and was completed in 1911.
There is a plaque at the top of the second story, on which the words "Shinshū Honbyō," the official name of this temple complex, is written. There is a stairway on either side leading up to the upper floor, where three figures can be seen: Shakyamuni (the historical Buddha), Ananda (his principal disciple), and Bodhisattva Maitreya (the future Buddha).
This is a scene of the Buddha, preaching one of the sacred texts of the denomination, the Larger Sutra (Muryōju-kyō).
Although Seihō Takeuchi was supposed to have painted a picture of flying heavenly beings on the ceiling, it was never accomplished. However, a rough drawing is still kept in the temple complex.
